Media blitz!!! (Including r/rpg AMA today!)
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Jul 09, 2019 at 05:46:01 PM

Good morning, all!

We're about 2-3 pledges away from hitting Stretch 3, so there will probably be another update soon, but I have some stuff I just can't wait to share.

This week is kind of a media blitz.  Here are the details:

1) Late last night Geekerati posted a new podcast featuring interviews with Alan Bahr about the Tiny D6 system and myself and Gregory Israel about the #Micronomicon. (My part starts about 36:45, FWIW.)

I'm really happy with how it came out, and I'd love it if you all could give it a listen and share it around.  (Getting very close to hitting our social media goal and the MIcronomiCards add-on!)

2) I'm doing an Ask Me Anything on Reddit today, starting about 1 PM Central time.  You are all invited to drop by and ask me about my favorite breakfast cereal, turn-offs and turn-ons, the secret of life, etc.

3) There will be a Q&A with Dan Davenport on Random Worlds Weds. evening, starting about 7:30 PM.  I plan to make a big announcement in the chat, so make sure you drop in.  :)

4) I was also planning a chat session on the Gallant Knight Games Discord channel later this week, but you all might be sick of me by then, so early next week might be better. (Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.)

5) Anybody got something else I should be doing?  I really want to make sure we're reaching out as wide as we can.

Thank you all for your help!  We've got 9 days left in this campaign.  Let's finish strong and get this book LOADED UP with settings and art!

Stretch Goal 5 details
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 08, 2019 at 11:56:18 AM

Just about halfway into the campaign and we are cruising, y'all!  More than 80% of the way to Stretch 3, Almost 90% of the way to Backer's Choice III, and halfway to our social media goal!  (I'll have some card mockups to show you all soon!)  Great job, all!

Given that we're making such great progress, I thought today might be a good one to give you all some more information about Stretch Goal 5.   (It's a little ways down the road, but we're going to get there.)

Stretch Goal 5 details

When the campaign gets up over $6k, the first thing we get to do is add more spot art, this time from Reed Hill.  As you may recall, Reed recently joined our art team and has been working on custom illustrations, putting our backers (or their characters) in our microsettings.  Very cool!

We'll also be adding two new microsettings, which frankly I would like to see mashed up.  (Tell me how you would do it in the comments!)

Clash of the Pastrium: The Gingerbread Joust

By Mari Murdock

Everyone knows the legend of the Gingerbread Man, the animated cookie who escaped all capture. However, many schools of magic, from the animators to the alchemists, claim his creation, making him the most controversial of magical objects.

Luckily, the Pastrium, a secret baking guild, has decided to hold a contest to prove, once and for all, which school of magic did indeed bring this infamous pastry to life. In this microsetting, players will pit their most vicious vivified baked goods against one another for the title of Panifex Praevalidus

Let the Gingerbread Joust begin!

 Gate Crashers

By David Paul Guzmán

Five years ago, they began appearing: The Gates. Unstable portals to another realm, they open up into labyrinthine “dungeons” filled with nightmarish creatures, wondrous resources, and mysterious artifacts. Corporations, vying for the riches within, seek out Delvers—seemingly normal people who are transformed by the Gates, gaining wondrous abilities when they step through—to conquer the dangers and plunder the depths within. This modern-day microsetting details Delvers, their sponsor Corporations, and innovations like techno-artificing and tactical alchemy that have arisen since the Gates appeared. It includes suggestions to adapt the ideas to a fantasy, post-apocalyptic, or cyber-future setting.

David Paul Guzmán is a Florida native, Star Wars nerd, anime enthusiast, seafood lover, and lifelong roleplayer. His love of tabletop RPGs blossomed in 1983 in the shadow of the D&D animated series, which resulted in more than three decades of tormenting both GMs and players alike. He’s worn many hats since then: musician, teacher, desktop publisher, videogame tester, community coordinator, and sound engineer. When not trying on his new writer’s hat, he’s slowly being driven insane by back-to-back episodes of Paw Patrol being played next to him.

Man, am I ever excited to play these!  But first we have to get to $6k.  So keep on stretching, and keep spreading the word!  (And don't forget to use the #Micronomicon hashtag on FB/IG/Twitter/etc.)

Thanks, gang!

Next week
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 08, 2019 at 11:55:00 AM

Hola, y'all! Hope everybody had a fantastic Fourth and is enjoying the weekend.

We're soooooooo close to hitting our upcoming goals. Especially the next backers choice poll. Just THREE backers away from 300. Oh, the sweet agony of anticipation. Exquisite!

A couple of quick notes about next week.

1) I got interviewed for the Geekerati podcast (along with Greg Israel, and Alan Bahr). Episode should post Monday.

2) I (and some other Micronomicon contributors) will be doing an AMA on Reddit this coming Tuesday afternoon.

3) Later in the week will be a Q&A on the Gallant Knight Games Discord channel.

4) Very soon I will be announcing a very cool add-on for physical art. Stay tuned!

That's all for now. But more news to come when we hit our stretches.

Thank you all for everything you are doing to spread the word and make this book a sorcerous success!

Backer's Choice II winner announced
almost 5 years ago – Mon, Jul 08, 2019 at 11:54:47 AM

THIS IS SPARTAAAA!  Or maybe MICRONOMICA!  But there's 300 of us, is the point, and we have spiffy capes.

It's incredible, awesome, and humbling that 300 of you have pledged to bring the Micronomicon to life.  Thank you.  And thank you also for liking, sharing, retweeting, and telling your friends and family.  Every new backer, every new pledge makes this book bigger and better.  Plus, it's just fun to watch those numbers tick up.  I don't know where we're going to land, but I am loving this ride.

Anyhow, it's time to reveal the results of the Backers Choice II poll.  With a commanding lead, the clear winner is Mage Hunters, chosen by about 55% of voters.  In second place, Crossroads was selected by about 37%.  (Awww....  I love that one.) And bringing up the rear was Logos Arcane, picked by 23% of you.  (And three of you voted for None of the Above.)

So our winning microsetting will be included in the Micronomicon, making a grand total of 7 microsettings so far.  (And we'll have 9 as soon as we hit Stretch 3, which could be any minute now.)  Rad.  Here's the pitch, for those who haven't read it already.

Mage Hunters

by John D. Payne

Mages broke the world, the Dragons say, and so we shall not suffer a mage to live. But they have better things to do than hunt them down. That's where you come in. Mage Hunters live by Dragon Law, so they can enter (and leave) any Arkology, and brave any Wild Zone. Their ranks are drawn from the Fallen (Humans, Fey, Dwarves, Goblins), the Lifted (Beast Races, Simulacra, and Tree Folk), but especially from the Descendants (Dragonbloods). Play as a hunter or spear-carrier, a wild mage, or an Ark bunny. But whatever you do, don't wake the Dragons.

I'm really excited to include this one.  I'm already thinking up my character (the unlikely love child of Aurra Sing and Lloyd Garmadon).  Man, this is going to be fun.

I'm also excited to offer you another Backers Choice poll.  Like the first two, it will have pitches for three micro settings (all written by me).  You, the backers, check the boxes for the one(s) you would like to have in this book.  Voting will be open until we hit 400 backers.

Rad!
